Eric Alm is a leading expert in the field of human microbiome research.  Dr. Alm is an Associate Professor in the Biological Engineering Department at MIT, and an Associate Member of the Broad Institute. He holds degrees in Math/Computer Science, Biology, and Biochemistry. His research aims to cure human diseases by personalizing medicine and by developing new drugs derived from the human microbiome. His group recently launched the first international stool bank, OpenBiome, which has provided treatments for over 700 patients suffering from recurrent Clostridium difficult infections, and his work has been featured in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, BBC World, NBC News, and many other outlets.
