About Bioinformatics Consortium of Taiwan
Bioinformatics Consortium of Taiwan (BCT) was formerly known as the Advanced Bioinformatics Core (ABC) facility. It is consisted by four units, which have expertise on comparative bioinformatics (CB), functional bioinformatics (FB), genomic statistics (GS), and information technology (IT), respectively. These four units have established interdisciplinary collaboration and solve problems jointly.
BCT provides 5 types of services, namely consultation, platform services, customized services, online services, and information management system services. The contents of BCT’s services not only cover the existing services in ABC, but also focus on the next-generation sequencing (NGS), proteome analysis, literature analysis currently. The latter two services are characteristics of TBC. The NGS analysis can detect the sequence variations, structural variations, transcription factor binding sites, methylation sites. These sites can be annotated by the pathway or protein interaction information in order to interpret their biological meaning. If requested, the de novo sequencing results can be assembled, compared, and annotated. In addition to NGS, proteome analysis, and literature analysis, the application of visualization analysis, network biology on biotechnology are also the major topics for research and development, or collaboration.
BCT also welcome other bioinformatics teams to join as affiliate members, so we may work together on biotechnology. Hopefully, this team work will increase Taiwan’s international competitiveness.
